Nestled just outside the quaint Highland village of Edderton, Balblair is well known for its rich and fruity style of whisky. The third release of their 1991 vintage, this particular bottling was created using a combination of American oak ex-bourbon casks and Spanish oak ex-sherry butts. Initially the aroma is full of rich citrus fruit with hints of vanilla, toffee and chocolate developing into a spicy honey note. The palate if full and creamy with the characteristic Balblair orchard and citrus fruits at the fore. Layers of chocolate, stewed fruits, Christmas pudding and rich vanilla sauce follow before a long finish of coconut and vanilla caramel. A wonderfully rich and decadent celebratory dram.
